The world all watched the dramatic trial of Alex Murdaugh last year that resulted in his being found guilty for the murder of his wife and son. A critical part of the trial and the story involved the financial crimes perpetrated by Murdaugh that had been going on for years, with Murdaugh stealing millions of dollars from clients and his own law firm. In this webinar, we will dissect Murdaugh’s financial crimes, examining the mechanics of how he stole money from his victims and how he got away with it for years, before finally reaching a breaking point on June 7, 2021.

Presenters:

Helga A. Zauner, CVA, CFE, MAFF, is a Partner in Weaver’s Forensics and Litigation Services practice. She is a testifying expert witness with 30 years of experience in litigation consulting, financial analysis, banking, research and teaching. She focuses on financial modelling and statistical techniques, with extensive experience in quantitative data analysis. She has served as a consultant, financial advisor and financial manager in banking, corporate credit, construction, retail, energy, health care, real estate and other industries. In addition, Helga has built a successful practice as an expert witness in personal injury, including Multi District Litigation, and commercial litigation.

Travis Casner, CFE, is a partner in the Forensics and Litigation Services practice at Weaver with over 14 years of experience providing investigative and forensic services for clients in the public and private sectors with experience leading large-scale complex financial investigations involving allegations of fraud, embezzlement, employee misconduct, conflicts of interest and other types of white-collar crime.  He is experienced in data analytics, digital forensics, asset tracing, witness/subject interviews, as well as evaluating governance practices and internal controls.
