AGENDA
AM Session - 4 CPEs
"Taken to the Cleaners? Check Washing, Check Fraud, and Check 21" - presented by Greg Lister, President and CEO, SAFEChecks"
- Presentation Description: The death of checks and check fraud has been predicted for 50 years, but instead of dying, check fraud has found new life through various avenues. Old-school techniques such as check washing are surging, as fraudsters cycle through various strategies tried-and-true. Check 21's Warranties and Indemnity offer powerful protections against some check fraud liability. However, few people today, including bankers, know little about them, nor do they fully grasp Check 21’s reach. Greg will illuminate and elucidate the latest in all-things-check-fraud – both the new, and the tried-and-true. He will include real life examples, how the fraud happened, and straightforward strategies for preventing it.
"VEC, BEC…What the Heck? The Latest in Cybercrime" - presented by Greg Lister, President and CEO, SAFEChecks
- Presentation Description: Vendor Email Compromise scams (VEC) target an organization’s vendors, not the organization itself. They are a relatively new twist in the universe of cybercrime that has exploded during the pandemic. VEC scams are “kissing cousins” to BEC scams (Business Email Compromise) which have been sky-rocketing for years. Both employ elements of social engineering and psychological manipulations to defraud victim organizations of their hard-earned capital. BEC scams are often paired with payment diversion, wire fraud, and account takeovers, and now also integrate and intertwine with old-school check fraud. Fraud attempts will shift from one payment method to another, but they aren’t going away! Besides being financially damaging, successful fraud attempts are demoralizing and can be a catalyst for blame and accusations, riddling an organization with distrust. Greg will discuss specific fraud attempts, some that were successful and some that were thwarted, and will give the attendees numerous proven strategies for defending against a variety of VEC, BEC, and other cyber scams.
"The IT Guy Won the Lottery: Is Your Organization Prepared?" - presented by Sorin Ciesielski, Senior Manager, IT Advisory Services, Weaver
- Presentation Description: This presentation will focus on risks associated with lean IT organizations, IT functions existent outside of IT, and management of privileged access. These areas have been known to potentially allow for fraud to develop and remain undetected for periods of time. Financial costs to the organizations related to such fraudulent activities can be significant and the reputational risk is even greater. The fraud triangle as related to these areas will be discussed and participants will leave with ideas as to how these risks can be mitigated.
PM Session - 4 CPEs
"AI in Fraud Analytics: Enabling Detection and Prevention while Reducing Risk" - presented by George Casey, Principal and Advanced Analytics Leader, RSM and Steve Biskie, Principal and Risk Consulting Analytics Leader, RSM
- Presentation Description: Fraud is a persistent problem that affects organizations across industries and geographies. While traditional methods of detecting fraud rely on manual reviews and random sampling, advanced analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) can help identify anomalies and patterns that might otherwise go unnoticed. In this presentation, RSM’s team of Fraud Analytics and AI practitioners will share their experience working together to develop more effective fraud detection and prevention strategies. They will discuss the latest trends in fraud analytics and AI, including machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive modeling. The presenters will also share case studies of how their collaborative approach has helped organizations detect and prevent fraud, including examples of how they have used data visualization and dashboards to provide real-time insights into potential fraud risks. Finally, the presenters will provide practical advice on how internal auditors can leverage fraud analytics and AI tools and techniques to enhance their fraud detection and prevention efforts. Attendees will leave with a better understanding of the benefits of collaboration between fraud analytics and AI teams, and how they can apply these techniques to their own organizations.
